vMix is a Windows production application. This is what changes when the same job happens in a browser instead — cameras, guests, overlays, recording, streaming.
vMix is a serious piece of live production software. It runs on Windows, it is bought once per licence tier, and it does a great deal: many inputs, instant replay, a full switcher, NDI, virtual sets. If you already run vMix on a dedicated production machine and it does what you need, nothing here argues with that.
The reasons people look for an alternative are usually specific, and worth naming honestly.
Where it runs. vMix runs on one Windows machine, and that machine has to be the one in the room. A browser studio runs wherever you have a browser — including a laptop, and including a Mac. There is nothing to install and nothing to keep updated.
Who has to be in the room. Bringing a remote guest into vMix means a call application, a capture card or an NDI bridge, and someone who knows how to wire it. In a browser studio you send a link and the guest joins.
Who does the distribution. vMix encodes and uploads a separate stream for every destination, from your connection. Three destinations at 1080p is roughly 18 Mbit/s of upload from your room. A cloud studio takes one stream and fans it out, so your upload stays flat however many networks you add.
What you get afterwards. vMix records to disk; what happens next is your editing workflow. Here the recording flows into the same product: an editor, automatic transcription and translation, captions, and short vertical clips cut from the same recording.
Being accurate about this matters more than winning the comparison.

If vMix is your switcher and you like it there, you can keep it and send its output to us over RTMP: vMix does the production, and we handle distribution to every supported network, the recording, the captions and the clips. That is a common arrangement and it is worth knowing it exists before you choose one or the other.
