OBS Studio is free, open source, and the most widely used piece of streaming software there is. It runs on Windows, macOS and Linux, it costs nothing, and with plugins it can be bent into almost any shape. If OBS is already set up the way you like it and it does the job, that is a perfectly reasonable place to be, and this article is not going to pretend otherwise.
People still look for something else, and usually for one of four reasons: the setup, the second destination, the guest, and what happens after the broadcast ends.
Setup. OBS is a program you install, configure and maintain — scenes, sources, encoder settings, audio routing, and usually a plugin or two. A browser studio opens at an address. There is nothing to install, nothing to keep updated, and nothing that behaves differently on a borrowed laptop or a locked-down work machine.
The second destination. OBS sends one stream to one server. Reaching three networks means the multi-RTMP plugin and three separate encodes leaving your room, which is roughly 18 Mbit/s of upload for three destinations at 1080p. Here you send one stream and it is distributed onward, so your upload stays flat however many networks you add.
Guests. OBS has no guest system at all. A remote guest means a call application in another window, a window capture or a browser source to get them on screen, and enough audio routing that they do not hear themselves on a delay. In a browser studio you send a link, the guest joins from their browser, and their microphone is mixed so that their return feed excludes their own voice.
Afterwards. OBS gives you a file. Everything after that — transcription, captions, translation, cutting shorts, uploading them — is a separate set of tools and a separate afternoon. Here it is the same product: the recording opens in a multi-track editor, the transcript carries a timestamp for every word, captions can be burned in using more than eighty designs, and vertical clips are cut from the same recording.
Being accurate about this matters more than winning the comparison.
They are not exclusive, and for most existing OBS users this is the arrangement worth knowing about before choosing sides. Every broadcast here has an RTMP, RTMPS or SRT address and key. Point OBS at it and OBS stays your switcher — your scenes, your encoder settings, your plugins — while distribution to every supported network, the recording, the captions, the translation and the clips happen on our side. You are not giving up the thing you already know how to use.

If you are comfortable in OBS, you stream to one place, and you already have an editing workflow you like — stay where you are. If the real job is get this out to several networks, bring in a guest who is not in the room, and turn it into captioned clips in two languages, then most of what OBS asks you to assemble by hand is already assembled here. And if you want both, keep OBS as the switcher and let it feed the rest.

For a local recording, usually yes — you control the encoder and write straight to disk with no network in the path. For a live stream at the bitrates the networks actually accept, the difference is far smaller than it sounds.
If it presents itself to the operating system as a camera — a capture device, or the NDI, OBS or vMix virtual camera — the browser can open it and the studio lists it. A source that only exists inside OBS has to arrive over RTMP or SRT instead.
